OTO, Iowa -- LaVaughn K. Adkins, 69, of Oto died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oto United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Oto Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Willman Funeral Home in Rodney, Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed at www.pearsonwoodwillman.com.

LaVaughn Karon Adkins, daughter of Harold and Edna (Heinse) Sands, was born Jan. 30, 1942, near Anthon, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth. She attended Oto Schools through the 11th grade then received her general education diploma at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City.

On October 15, 1962, LaVaughn was united in marriage to William Adkins in Yankton, S.D. Since 1975, LaVaughn worked alongside her life partner Bill at their business B&L Tap and Adkins Construction until her retirement in 2010.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, visiting the diamond mines in Arkansas and going to the casino.

LaVaughn is survived by her husband, Bill Adkins of Oto; children, Kimberley Taves and husband, Tom of Le Mars, Iowa, Randy Struble of Sioux City, and Sherry Thoms and husband, Todd of Parker, Colo.; grandchildren, Karen Rosales and husband, Luis of Le Mars, Jeremy Sanow of Le Mars, Brandi Johnson of Sioux City, Tanner Ladwig and wife, Erica of Jacksonville, N.C., Ian Struble of Onawa, Iowa, Austin Struble of Onawa, Randie Lyn Struble of Onawa, Kristin Stoever and husband, Nathaniel of Sioux City, Tydus Struble of Sioux City, Amber Thoms and fiance, Matt Clark of Parker, Colo., and Tylor and Autum Thoms both of Parker; great-grandchildren, Cody Nelson, Cassidy Sanow, Madison Rosales, Ashley Rosales, Haley Rosales, Gracie Pageler, Joshua Stoever, Jerron Stoever, Tiffany Struble, Maison Gagnon and Zoie Gagnon; four sisters and one brother, Marlene Nelligan and husband, Sam of Calgary, Canada, Janice Ingram and husband, Newell of Danbury, Iowa, Shirlene Kelsheimer and husband, Jim of Anthon, Iowa, Delores Tucker of Texas, and Leroy Sands and wife, Juanita of Sioux City; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Sands and Edna Sands Kloster; stepfather, Nis Kloster; and one daughter in infancy, Veronica Struble.
