Danbury, Iowa—C. Jean Sheumaker, 77, of Danbury died unexpectedly Thursday, October 21, 1999, at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Danbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glenn Houts III officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery at Danbury. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 9 a.m. until the funeral service time at the church in Danbury.

Mrs. Sheumaker was born December 17, 1921, at Austin, Minn., the daughter of C.R.S. and Hope (Seibold) Anderson. Six months later the family moved to Des Moines, where they lived until 1935 when they moved to Danbury. Jean graduated from Danbury High School in 1940, and continued her education at Christian College in Columbia, MO., graduating in 1942. She then went to Iowa State University at Ames and graduated in 1944.

She married Robert G. “Doc” Sheumaker on June 21, 1944, at Danbury. The couple lived their entire lives in Danbury. He died on April 27, 1996.

She was an active member of the Danbury United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of The Danbury Community Club, Danbury Women’s Club, a past member and matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 84 of Danbury and a member of the P.E.O. FQ of Mapleton, Iowa. She was also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and a past president of Tri Delta Alumni of Sioux City. Recently she had served as board member of the Hospice of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Survivors include four daughters, Susan McLuen of Spokane, Wash., Ellen Beightol of Denver, Joan Davis and her husband, David of Rapid City, S.D. and Nancy Rendall and her husband Stephen of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a twin sister, C. Jane Colbert of Danbury; a brother and his wife, C.R.S. “Si” and Ree Anderson of Sanibel, Fla.: and many other relatives.
