SIOUX CITY -- Earline Ann Ashmore, 89, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Prairie View Care Center in Sanborn, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dr. Steven H. Pohlman officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Earline was born July 28, 1921, in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of Earl Robert and Josie Mae (Story) Langford. She graduated from Little Rock High School. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. She was one of the first 100 women to serve in the Coast Guard.

She married Dr. Robert E. Ashmore on Sept. 2, 1943, in New Haven, Conn. He died Dec. 28, 2000, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Hawarden, Iowa, for a short time and came to Sioux City in 1948. Dr. Ashmore practiced medicine in Sioux City for many years. After his retirement, they moved to Venice, Fla., for about 10 years before returning to Sioux City.

Earline was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star. She was a mother adviser for the Riverside Chapter of the Rainbow Girls, a board member of the Sioux City Public Museum, along with many other local organizations. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and making ceramic dolls. She also enjoyed many fun times with her friends and family at their summer home in Okoboji. She had a love for life and enjoyed adventures and anything involving fun.

Survivors include four children, Judy Kummerfeldt and her husband, Jeff of Germantown, Iowa, Susan Rogers and her husband, Jack of Keokuk, Iowa, Robert Ashmore Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Richard Ashmore and his wife, Brenda of Sioux City; and 10 grandchildren, Jeff Kummerfeldt and his wife, Janet and their children, Joshua, Kaitlyn and Sara, Betty Olsem and her husband, Scott and their daughter, Adriana, Jonathon Rogers and his wife, Gina and their son, Jack, Andrea Rogers, Robin Jauregui and her husband, Steve and their children, Elise and Wyatt, Lindsey Ashmore, Chantelle Fortney and her husband, Jason and their children, Tyler, Gracie and Alyssa, Drew Borghas and his wife, Sara and their daughter, Majerle, Nathan Ashmore and his wife, Beth, and Kimberly Ashmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.
