SIOUX CITY -- Richard E. "Rick" Carter, 66, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Feb. 2, 2011, at 3 p.m., with his family by his bedside, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Lyle M. Johnson officiating. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Aspen Cremation and Burial Services in Lincoln.

Rick's greatest joys in life were dancing with his wife who was his high school sweetheart, Diane Marie (Shaputis), attending his grandson Dalton's sporting events and tending to his lawn on warm summer days while wearing his favorite tattered Hawaiian shirts.

He was a longtime supporter of St. Jude Children Research Hospital.

He was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather. Rick is survived by his wife, Diane; sons, Kevin and Jeremy; daughter-in-law, Sarah; and grandson Dalton. Rick was the primary caregiver for, and is survived by, his mother-in-law, Jennie Shaputis, age 94.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dalton Carter, Roger Uttecht, Kyle Uttecht, Jacob Moore, Joshua Moore.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
