SIOUX CITY -- Hazel M. Walker, 93, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Hazel was born July 17, 1917, in Trenton, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Laura (Buzzard) Hobbs, In 1921, Hazel and her family moved to Sioux City. They lived in the Weber log cabin, which is now in the Le Mars, Iowa, History Museum. She attended Central High School and Samuel's Beauty School.

She married Darrell Walker on June 17, 1941, in South Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1976, in Sioux City. Hazel worked as a beautician for the Warrior Hotel and J.C. Penney's. When she retired in 1994, she was the oldest practicing beautician in Sioux City.

Hazel loved to read, knit and do crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her son, Michael and his wife, Brenda Walker of Vista, Calif.; a daughter, Michele Scofield of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Patrick Walker and his wife, Lorri, Timothy Warren and his wife, Twila, Kristipher Warren and his wife, Lee, Dana Limoges and her significant other, Mike Flannery, DJ and her husband, Jim Strehlow, and Angie Martin; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, William Hobbs; four sisters, Merle Ives, Edra Hanson, Lucille Campell, and Emily Hobbs; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Coenen.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Walker, Timothy Warren, Kristipher Warren, Mike Flannery, Chuck Hanson, and Justin Walker.
