SIOUX CITY -- Vernon Robert Prewitt, 80, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. George Pappas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Vernon Robert was born March 1, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of Ward and Amy Prewitt. He graduated from Central High School.

Vernon met the love of his life, Annette, at the Sioux City Battery, where they both worked. They were married on Aug. 14, 1948. He was employed with Ralston Purina for 12 years, before working as a self-employed driver for Crete Carrier Corporation for 23 years. After retirement, he continued his productive lifestyle by working part-time in security for Wilson Trailer.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He loved to bowl and play cards with family and friends. He was a loving husband and father and considered by all who knew him a very sweet and kind man.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Prewitt; a daughter, Mary Ann and her husband, Larry McCoy of Troy, Mo.; a son, John and his wife, Carol Prewitt of Edmond, Okla.; grandchildren, Amanda and her husband, Scott Shelmire of St. Peters, Mo., Michelle and her husband, Keith Slagle of O'Fallon, Mo., and Jonathan Prewitt of Edmond; two brothers, Gerald and his wife, Frances Prewitt of Sioux City and Dick and his wife, Loretta Prewitt of Washington; a sister-in-law, Pat Prewitt of Arizona; three sisters, Evelyn Farnsworth of New York, Jane Byus of Indiana, and Candy Bruhn and her husband, Steve of Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Prewitt; two sisters-in-law, LaVonne Prewitt andMary Glarum; and four brothers-in-law, Gus, George, Tom and Art Mehess.
