SIOUX CITY -- Fred A. VanOrder, 78, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Fred was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Allegan, Mich., to Frederick P. and Laura Belle (Quibell) VanOrder. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953.

Fred loved to play pool, drink beer with family and friends, and do mirror edging. The best thing in his life was making people laugh and smile. He also wrote poetry and songs.

He is survived by his sons, Robby Myers of Sioux City, Ricky "Porky" VanOrder and his wife, Cindy of Sioux City, Pat Myers and his wife, Liz of South Dakota; daughters, Debbie Lee of Harlan, Iowa, Brenda "Firecracker" Harmon of Sioux City, and Kathryn "Kat" Illingsworth and her husband, Tom of Florida; grandchildren, J.R., Rachal, and J.T. Myers, Junior Smith, and several more; and many great-grandchildren; special friends, Chris Foster, Scott Jennings, Jil McCorkindale, and Bob Quist.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Linda "Sunshine" VanOrder.

Honorary pallbearers are J.R., Rachal, J.T., and Johnny Myers, Scott Jennings, and Junior Smith.
