SIOUX CITY -- Marlene Joyce Lottridge, formerly of Sioux City, died Jan. 18, 2011, at home in Fort Mill, S.C., after fighting cancer for five years.

A memorial service will be held in Iowa in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Palmetto Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Mills, S.C. To express condolences, visit www.palmettofh.com.

Marlene was born Sept. 23, 1938, to Hazel and Martin Manning, in Booneville, Iowa. She graduated from Van Meter (Iowa) High School.

Marlene married Ronald Lottridge on Aug. 29, 1958. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in June 1960. She taught school for 32 years in Sioux City, and was active in the Sioux City Education Association and the Sioux City Community Theatre.

She also received the Iowa State Education Association Charles F. Martin Award in 1972. In retirement, she moved to North Carolina and then to South Carolina. She volunteered at the Carolina Medical Center and the Charlotte Country Day School. She created stained glass, and enjoyed genealogy, basket weaving, Sudoku and reading. Marlene was an active member of the Bookends Book Club.

She is survived by her siblings, Janice Roper of Santa Monica, Calif., Helen Stangl of Adel, Iowa, Betty Fitzgerald and Walter Manning of Booneville, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews who gave her great pleasure.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Elizabeth.

She will be truly missed.
