SIOUX CITY -- Alice E. Bauer, 84, of Sioux City joined our Lord on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. The Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Alice was born on March 5, 1926, in Bee, Neb., the daughter of John and Emma (Samek) Bartunek. She was raised in Bee and graduated from high school in Bee. After graduating from high school, she moved to Lincoln, Neb., to attend a business college.

While in Lincoln, she met her future husband, Charles G. Bauer, and they were married on May 2, 1949, in Lincoln. After their marriage, the couple moved to Sioux City, where they raised their family. Alice worked on the switchboard at St. Vincent Hospital in Sioux City and in the medical records department at Mercy Medical Center. She also worked in the medical records department at St. Luke's Medical Center before she retired.

Alice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She loved reading, sewing, embroidering and playing cards. She did volunteering at Mercy Medical Center and at the Siouxland Senior Center.

She is survived by her children, three sons, Tim of Sioux City, Chad and Jenifer of Jefferson, S.D., and John and Darla of Sioux City; eight daughters, Pam and Mark McQuade of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Katy and Bill Forsling of Elk Point, S.D., Patti Blackwell and her fiance, Bryan Waddell of Sergeant Bluff, Joani and Ralph Brown of Sioux City, Lucy and Mike Greer of Sioux City, Barb and Craig Nyreen of Sioux City, Peggy Bauer of Sioux City, and Tressie Bauer of Sioux City; 29 grandchildren, Leah, Jason, Laura (Mary Beth); Rachel, Jacob (Joani); Jennifer, Jodi, Daniel (Patti); Aisha, Adam, Ashley, Garrett (Barb); Sara, Tony (Peggy); Ben, Sean (Pam); Taylor, Kaitlin, Lukas (Katy); Nick, Andrew, Nate, Sam, Josias, Cecilia (John); Blaze, Brayten, Baby Girl, Robert (Chad); 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wilma Kavan of Valparaiso, Neb., Marge Shonka of Wildwood, Fla., and Delores "Dinky" Zitek of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother-in-law, Francis and Ethel Bauer; a sister-in-law, Dee and Vincent Havorka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Mary Beth Howard; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Charlie; her brother, John; and three sisters, Georgia Rerucha, Emma Rerucha and Lucille Helgoth.
