SIOUX CITY -- Dale Allen Bohner, 88, longtime educator in the Sioux City School System, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dale Bohner was born on July 22, 1922, in Scotland, S.D. After graduation from Scotland High School, he attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. During this time, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1945, he obtained his bachelor's degree from Westmar. He continued his education at the University of Iowa and graduated with a master's degree in business administration.

Dale was passionate about teaching and positively impacted many lives throughout his 46-year career as an educator. He held teaching positions at Cherokee High School, Central High School and Westmar College. He served as head of the business department at North High School from the school's opening until his retirement at age 70. Dale also had a very successful 50-year career with Rain and Hail Insurance.

Dale is survived by his wife, Maxine (Foster) Bohner of Sioux City; daughter, Barbara (William) Clark of Perry, Iowa; daughter, Sandra Worthen of Perry, Iowa; daughter, Denise (Peter) Smith of Minneapolis, Minn.; son, Jere Bohner of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Lena (Davidsen) Bohner; his sister, Eva Ruth Grigg, and spouse, Elizabeth Bohner.

Memorials may be directed to the family in Dale Bohner's name to establish a North High School Business Department Scholarship.
