.DANBURY, Iowa -- Edward Otto Krueger, 86, of Danbury died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Glen Houts officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Carlsen-Frum Post 336 of Danbury. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Edward Otto Krueger was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Soldier, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Emilie (Eichstadt) Krueger. He was baptized in that same year at Immaculate Lutheran Church, where he was also confirmed in 1928. Ed grew up in the area and attended Soldier Township Church School.

On Oct. 25, 1941, Ed was united in marriage to Alma Davis in Tarkio, Mo. In December 1941, he was drafted into the U.S. Amy and was inducted in Des Moines. He received his basic training in Camp Polk, La., then serving with the 23rd Armored Engineers, 3rd Army and later with the 5th Army. Ed went oversees during World War II in 1943, serving his country in England, Germany the Alps over Normandy, and in the Battle of the Bulge. He returned to the United States upon his honorable discharge in September 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his heroism.

Returning to Iowa, Ed farmed from 1946 to 1955, and then worked for a local burial vault company in Danbury until 1964. He and his wife, Alma, owned and operated Ed's Place in Danbury from 1964 to 1979. Since retirement, the couple has continued to make their home in Danbury.

Ed was a member of Danbury United Methodist Church since he joined there March 16, 1969. He was a former member of American Legion Carlsen-Frum Post 336 and a current member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2020 of Battle Creek, Iowa.

Those survivors left to cherish Ed's memory include Alma, his wife of 60 years; five children, Laurel Rubendall and her husband, Kenneth, of Moville, Iowa, Ed Krueger and his wife, Judy, of Yokosuka, Japan, Lois Krueger of Earlham, Iowa, Fred Krueger and his wife, Cheryl, of Merrill, Iowa, and Randy Krueger and his wife, Casey, of Danbury; 12 grandchildren, Les Rubendall, Kevin Prell and his wife, Heather, Shane Schillerberg, Kris Krueger, Tom Krueger, Andy Krueger, Justin Schillerberg and his wife, Jill, Lisa Tantum, Lori Scott and her husband, Rick, Amy Farley, Shawn Gordon and her husband, Keith, and Emilie Krueger; five great-grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Scott, Matthew Tantum, Carissa Farley and Jeffery Gordon; a brother, Loren Krueger of Charter Oak, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Helma and Bill Ladwig of Denison, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Ila Krueger and Louise Krueger, both of Charter Oak and Hilda Krueger of Denison; numerous nieces, nephews, several other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a grandson, Eric.
