DANBURY, Iowa -- Nellie I. Jensen, 93, of Danbury died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Danbury United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glen Houts officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Nellie Ida Jensen was born March 3, 1908, in Danbury, the daughter of Millard and Alma (Iddings) Gary. She grew up and was educated in Danbury, graduating from Danbury High School.

On March 30, 1929, Nellie was united in marriage to Charley Milo Jensen in Danbury. The couple made their home in Danbury and later lived in Manilla, Iowa, for 12 years. They returned to Danbury in 1941. They farmed until 1960, when they moved into Danbury. The couple owned and operated Jensen Sundry Store from 1960 to 1972. Charley passed away Jan. 22, 1991. Nellie continued to live in her home in Danbury until just a few weeks ago, when she entered Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

She was a member of Danbury United Methodist Church, where she served with the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past Matron of the Danbury Chapter. Nellie is best remembered for the many years she served the community behind the counter at Jensen Sundry Store, dishing out ice cream, fountain pop and penny candy to every kid around.

Those survivors remaining to cherish the life of Nellie include a son and his wife, Ronald and Alice Jensen of Omaha; two granddaughters, Kimberly A. Jensen and Karla Hamlett and her husband, Dan; three great-grandchildren, Garrett and Jillian Hamlett and Tom Riecks; and along with many good friends and neighbors.

Along with her husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas; a grandson and a great-grandson.
