DANBURY, Iowa -- Bernard C. Mohrhauser, 86, of Danbury died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Bill Schreiber officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Bernard Carl Mohrhauser was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Danbury, the son of George and Lena (Ohlson) Mohrhauser. He went on to live his entire life in the Danbury community.

On Aug. 29, 1941, Barney was united in marriage to Ellie Bell in South Sioux City. In 2000, the couple renewed their wedding vows at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury.

Barney first started farming and in 1958, he began driving a gravel truck and working construction. He later started his career in the burial vault business, first working for the Otto Good Vault Company, then Brenner Vault Company and last with Welte Vault Company. He also worked during this same time for the City of Danbury, retiring in 1976.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury as well as the Senior Citizens there. He enjoyed time spent playing cards and bingo.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Ellie; three sons, Eldon "Pidge" Webb and his wife, Jan, of Aurora, Colo., Mike Mohrhauser and his wife, Carol, of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Rex Mohrhauser of Onawa, Iowa; two daughters, Bonnie and her husband, Richard Sohm, of Lead, S.D., and Mary Mohrhauser of Waukee, Iowa; two sisters, Ann Pithan of Danbury and Maggie Polluck of Tucson, Ariz.; and 17 granddaughters, a grandson, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several other relatives, neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Alberta "Bert" Leisinger; five brothers, George, Emmett, Albert, Charles and Raymond; and three sisters, Jennie Schell, Olive Collins and Bernadine Connor.
