Rex M. Griep, 82, of Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne Peach officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Griep was born April 27, 1920, in Woodbury County, near Moville, Iowa, the son of Lewis Carl and Elizabeth Francis "Lizzie" (Jurgeson) Griep. He was raised near Moville and attended school near Moville.

He married Corrine Herum on Oct. 10, 1940, in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Moville. She died Sept. 22, 1961. He married Ann Kane Simmons on Aug. 24, 1962, in Fremont, Neb. They moved to Sioux City in 1963. While living in Sioux City, he was employed with the Sioux City Stockyards. He was later employed with Sioux Tools until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of the Machinists Union and enjoyed fishing, baseball and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Griep of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Duane and Donna Griep of Sioux City; two daughters, Lorraine and her husband, Larry Downey of Correctionville, Iowa, and Teri Langholz of Sioux City; a stepson and his wife, Dave and Barbara Simmons of Longmont, Colo.; five grandchildren, David Griep, Debbie Stamp, Tammy Palmer, Cherie Crouch and Christine Havel; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
