Roy A. Schemel, 94, of Sioux City died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Alex Washington officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Schemel was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Lake City, Iowa, the son of William and Mary (Dalky) Schemel. He attended Lake City Public Schools. He lived in Storm Lake, Iowa, for a few years before moving to Sioux City in 1935.

He married Geneva "Babe" Robinson on Oct. 4, 1962, in Omaha. He was employed as a laborer with First National Bank for 15 years, and then with Sioux Tractor Sweep Rake for nine years. His wife died June 10, 1993, in Sioux City.

Survivors include two grandsons and their wives, Kelly and Linda Florke and Gene and Mary Florke, all of Sioux City; two granddaughters and their husbands, Coleen and Dennis Rose and Pam and Tom Cobb, all of Sioux City; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Mary Ann; two stepsons, Howard and Gary Florke; a brother, Harry Schemel; and a sister, Golda Sauter.
