21 August 2010SLOAN, Iowa -- Roger VanCleave, 57, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, formerly of the Sloan area, passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at Lakes Regional Healthcare Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Services were held Aug. 14 at Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger, Iowa. Condolences may be sent online to www.joycefuneralhomes.com.
Roger Dean VanCleave was born Oct. 20, 1952, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Edith (Stark) VanCleave. He was a graduate of Westwood High School in Sloan. Following his education, he drove truck for 18 years before moving to the Emmetsburg and Graettinger area. He worked in manufacturing as a welder. he worked for many years at Shaver Manufacturing in Graettinger and took a position at Polaris in Spirit Lake.
He was a member of the Pony Express Riders of Iowa. He enjoyed driving trucks, working on cars and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kyle (Kayleen Baldwin), Casey (Ashleigh Newkirk), all of Estherville, Iowa, and Jesse of Emmetsburg; his significant other, Alice Manwarren; two brothers, James (Sue) of Mapleton, Iowa, and Ken of Omaha; three sisters, Diane (Ken) Deck of Newmanstown, Pa., Mary Ann (Randy) Lussier of Hubbard, Neb., and Debbie (Bill) Mead of Dow City, Iowa; his newborn granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth VanCleave; and his ex-wife, DeEtta Koen of Estherville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ruby Monahan.
