SIOUX CITY -- Rita McQueen formerly of the Sioux City area passed away peacefully July 15, 2010, at Our Lady of Peace in Charlottesville, Va.

Abiding with Rita's wishes, there will be no memorial service. She will be returned home to Iowa to be interred with her husband in Grand Meadows Cemetery, Cherokee County, Iowa.

Rita was born Feb. 10, 1923, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Mae and Mark Schnettler. While working in Chicago, she married Herbert "Mac" McQueen and they lived most of their married life in the Sioux City area.

Rita enjoyed antiquing, gardening and playing cards with her bridge club. After her husband passed away in 1981, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, going for a dinner or movie. In 2006, Rita moved to Charlottesville to enjoy time with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Marian Flament; two children, Mike of Des Moines and Sandy of Charlottesville; her son-in-law, Dan Redieske; three grandchildren, Chris, Leah and Bryan; and three great-grandchildren, Connor, Collin and Kayla of Charlottesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Herbert A. McQueen; her parents; and two brothers, Edward and Robert.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Peace, 751 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville, VA. 22901.

She will be greatly missed and her memory will continue as a source of unconditional love for all of her family and friends.
