SIOUX CITY -- Phyllis A. Hindman, 75, of Sioux City died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 4 p.m. conducted by the Catholic Daughters of America and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Phyllis was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Marguerite (Hoffman) Newman. She attended grade school at Country School 5 and graduated from Liberty Consolidated High School.

She married Donald E. Hindman on Aug. 3, 1957, in Sioux City and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. She lived in Sioux City most of her adult life after growing up on a farm outside of Merrill. She worked at American Optical Company, where she met her husband, Don. She worked as a cook at Immaculate Conception School and Nativity Church of 13 years. She also worked at the County Assessor's Office in the courthouse for 20 years.

Phyllis was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was well known for her organizational skills and was a wonderful cook. She was always prompt and was known to be at least one hour early for all events, especially Heelan football games. Her strong faith was evident in all aspects of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Sioux City; a son, Scott Hindman and his wife, Jeanne of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Hindman of Marian, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Stephanie May and her husband, Tony, Lucas Hindman, Zachary Hindman and his wife, Lindsay and great-grandson, David, Rebecca Hindman, Sarah Hindman, Joshua Hindman, Joseph Hindman and Jacob Hindman; four sisters and a brother, Marilyn Klein and her husband, Vince of Hospers, Iowa, Shirley Morrissey of Lincoln, Neb., Ken Newman and his wife, Pat of Denver, Colo., Bernice Boland and her husband, Leo of Rapid City, S.D., and Arlene Jones and her husband, John of Athens, Tenn.; and a brother-in-law, Martin Hildreth and his wife, Peggy of Rockwell City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven; a sister, Kathy Hildreth; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Lucas, Zachary, Joshua, Joseph and Jacob Hindman and Dave Klein.

Memorials may be made in her name to Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
