RNICK, Iowa -- Evelyn Lois (Forney) Sexton, 92, Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Hornick, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.rushfamilycareservice.com.

Evelyn Lois Forney was born Dec. 27, 1917, in Holly Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Becker) Forney. She graduated from Holly Springs Public School in 1935, and worked as a secretary for a number of years prior to her marriage.

On April 13, 1946, she was united in marriage to Byron G. "Barney" Sexton in Elk Point, S.D. They farmed near Hornick and raised their three children, Carolyn, Byron and Barton. After Barney's death in 1965, Evelyn worked for 20 years for Westwood Schools as secretary to the superintendent.

Besides kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren, she enjoyed needle work, friends in the Hornick area and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. She was a member of the Hornick Library Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Hornick United Methodist Church.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Byron and his wife, Susan of Hornick; a daughter, Carolyn and her husband, Robert Craig of New Braunfels, Texas; grandchildren, Shannon (Stephen) McCauley of New Braunfels, Barrett Sexton of New York, N.Y., Stephanie Sexton of Wichita, Kan., and Kyle Craig of San Antonio, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Erin McCauley; two sisters, Mabel Schibonski and Gail Lloyd; a brother, Charles Forney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Byron, she was also preceded in death by a son, Barton; her parents; a brother, Everett Forney; and two sisters, June Madsen and Marian Piercy.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Evelyn's name to either the Cerebral Palsy Foundation or the charity of their choice.
