SIOUX CITY -- Darlene M. Goebel, 80, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Bickford Cottage.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ellendale, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Darlene M. Goebel was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of James and Margaret (Bahmer) Madden. She grew up in the Westfield, Iowa, area.

She married Joseph E. Goebel on Dec. 26, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale. Joseph passed away Feb. 19, 2002, in Sioux City. The couple farmed northwest of Le Mars, Iowa, in the early 1950s. They came to Sioux City and started Joe's Surplus in 1957.

She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale as a child and belonged to Sacred Heart and St. Michael Catholic Churches in Sioux City. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, dancing and her Pekingese dogs.

Survivors include three children, Bill Goebel and his wife, Rosemary of Hinton, Iowa, Carol Graham of Sioux City and Garry Goebel and his wife, Carolyn of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Nichole Otondi and her husband, Don, Harley, Adam and Ashley Goebel, Rob, Rick and Jeff Ehlers, Jerry Ehlers and his wife, Diana, Trever Case and his wife, Therese; seven great-grandchildren, William, Milan, Malia, Colton, Jadyn, Jenna and Justin; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Madden of Le Mars, Iowa, and Violet Madden of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a daughter, Donna Case.

Pallbearers will be Harley and Adam Goebel, Trever Case, Rob, Rick, Jeff and Jerry Ehlers.
