SIOUX CITY -- Norma Frances Cook, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, at Bickford Cottage.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Matt Wentz of Morningside Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Norma was born May 26, 1925, in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Callie (Barlow) Hobbs. She was raised on a farm near Marcus, Iowa. She graduated from Marcus High School.

She married Elmer L. "Cookie" Cook in 1944, in Marcus. He died in September 1988, in Sioux City. She moved to Sioux City in 1945. She worked as a sales lady for J.C. Penney's for many years. During the war years, she worked as Rosie the Riveter.

She was a devout Christian. She was one of the founding members of the Alzheimer's Association Big Sioux Chapter. She was active in Girl Scouts for many years and was a Girl Scout leader. She was a volunteer at the Sergeant Floyd River Museum and Welcome Center for many years.

Survivors include her son and his wife, Randy and Stephanie Cook of Maple Wood, Minn.; her daughter, Karen Curtis of Bowling Green, Ky.; her loving partner, Norman Lewison of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Tammy Shaffer, Haylie, Ryan and Shea Cook, Alyssa, Paul and Eric Munoz; and five great-grandchildren, Sabrina Shaffer, Skyla and Tyler Cook, J. Michael Forrest and Brittany Bitzer.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael "Bird" Forrest and Jamie Forrest; her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Aliene Sanow and Maude Nache.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association Big Sioux Chapter.
