SIOUX CITY -- John R. "Jack" Byrne, 81, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Church of All Nations, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

John was the son of Thomas and Nola (Alderman) Byrne was born March 3, 1929, in Sioux City. He received his education in the Sioux City schools and graduated from Central High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict with the 27th Unit.

He married Jacklyn Anderson on June 27, 1953, at Whitfield United Methodist Church. He worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years, retiring on May 30, 1986.

He was a 50-year member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge and Consistory. He also was a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine and really enjoyed working at the Shrine Circus. He was a past president of Sahibs. He was a 50-year member of Whitfield United Methodist Church, but had been attending the Church of All Nations.

He is survived by his wife, Jacklyn of Sioux City; a daughter, Cindi Byrne of Onawa, Iowa; a brother, Tom D. (Pat) Byrne of Sioux City; and a brother-in-law, John (Joy) Anderson of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy.

Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Health Foundation. Memorials will be used for scholarships to further nurse's education. Memorials can also be directed to the Church of All Nations.
