HORNICK, Iowa -- Lucille Sieger, 84, Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Hornick, passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hornick United Methodist Church, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Banner Cemetery at Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, prior to service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Lucille Marjorie was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Maude (Willer) Lighthall. She was raised in the Bronson, Iowa area on the family farm. After graduation from Lawton High School, she received a teaching certificate at Wayne State College.

Lucille and Donald Sieger were united in marriage on June 25, 1948, at Lawton, Iowa. The couple made their home and raised their children in Hornick, Iowa. Lucille taught school before her marriage and resumed teaching as her family grew older. She retired from teaching in 1971, having taught in Iowa at Hornick, Eagle Grove, Woodbury Central (Climbing Hill) and Lawton-Bronson schools until 1971. She also worked at a cafe and grocery store in Hornick and owned Lucille's Market in Hornick for 10 years. Don passed away on Oct. 30, 1971, in Hornick.

She was a member of Hornick United Methodist Church. After her retirement she served as librarian at Hornick Library for 10 years, was an avid quilter and enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Andy (Kathy) Sieger of Whiting, Iowa; three daughters, Judy (Leo) Lidgett of Bronson, Kathy (Doug) Chappelle of Omaha, Neb., and Ellen Sieger and her special friend, Darrell Hunt of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; six grandchildren, Carrie (Jon) Turnquist, Laura (Adrian) Rieder, Stacy Heilman, Ann (Adam) Lee, Don Chappelle and Tom (Allison) Chappelle; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Turnquist, Grace and Alexa Rieder, Steven and Thomas Heilman, Chase and Addison Lee and Lucas Chappelle; and a brother, E. Lloyd (Rosemary) Lighthall of Des Moines, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Glenn Lighthall, two grandsons, Steven Wilt and Chad Sieger; a great-grandson, Tyler Turnquist; and a son-in-law, Dennis Wilt.
