SIOUX CITY -- Robert J. Thompson, 54, of Sioux City, formerly of Algona, Iowa, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were held July 16, 2010 at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona, where the Rev. Henry Friedrich officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Robert James Thompson was born Dec. 2, 1955, in Algona, Iowa, to William and Mary Ann (Davis) Thompson. Bob graduated from West High School in Sioux City.

He married Joyce DeVall on June 23, 1973, in Sioux City. From this union was born Sally, Michael, Matthew and Sherry. Bob worked a variety of jobs before working at Snap-On Tools in Algona for 16 years. At the time of his death, he was working for Speedy Rooter in Sioux City.

Bob enjoyed shooting pool, playing darts, fishing and camping, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Since living in Sioux City, he was able to spend special time with his granddaughter Kaylee.

Survivors include his children, Sally and husband Jim Thomas of Norfolk, Neb., Michael Thompson and wife Jane of Sioux City, Matthew Thompson and wife Kara of South Sioux City, and Sherry Thompson of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Schauntel, Nathan, Jamie, Jennifer, Jessica, Kaylee, Ethan and Michael; his mother, Mary Ann Thompson of Algona; sisters and brother, Patty Thompson of Spencer, Iowa, Sue Thompson of Mason City, Iowa, Carol Bronson and husband Ken Carman of Algona, Lori Krug and husband Steve of Algona, Julie Thompson of Algona, Barbie Detrick and husband Nick of Algona, Roberta Grandgenett and husband Jerry of Algona, Sandy Coyle and husband David of LuVerne, Iowa, Becky Kramer and husband Mark of LuVerne, and Earl Thompson and wife Mary of Algona; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Bill; and sister, Darlene Menke.
