SIOUX CITY -- Donald L. Majeres, 73, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at a local hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Don was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur and Mary Elizabeth (Schiefen) Majeres. Don attended Bishop Heelan and graduated in 1955. He worked as a union pipe fitter and plumber in the Sioux City area until retirement.

Don married Lavonne Nagel-Bruning on Sept. 26, 1987, in Sioux City.

Don was the past president of the Local Bowling Association and the Hall of Fame Bowling Association. He was also a member of the Local Plumbers and Steamfitters 18 for 50 years. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman and volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lavonne Majeres; three sons, David Wayne Majeres and William Arthur and wife, Machael Majeres of Sioux City and Randy Lynn Bruning of Holstein, Iowa; four daughters, Leann Marie Livermore and husband, Dennis of Linn Grove, Iowa, Cindy Lou Vaul and husband, Bud of Sioux City, Sandy Lea Bruning of Sioux City, and Billie Jo Rosenbaum and husband, Rob of Lincoln, Neb.; 19 grandchildren, Aimee and husband, Juan, Kevin, Krystee, Matthew, Gabriel Majeres, Hunter, Rachel, Riley, and Jordan Livermore, Bill and wife, Stephanie, Tim and wife, Jennifer and Chrissy Vaul, Luis and wife, Rachael Rodriguez, Amanda Goss, Taylor, Tanner, Katie, Jordan and wife, Melissa Rosenbaum, and Tasha and husband, Joe McDonald; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Leonard and his wife, Marjorie Nagel of Beuna Park, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Peggy Goss.

Memorials may be given to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
