PIERSON, Iowa -- Lola A. Mahnke, 94, formerly of Pierson passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

The body was cremated. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Following the service, family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Community Building in Pierson. Arrangements in Ankeny were under the direction of Ankeny Funeral Home. Arrangements in Pierson are under the direction of Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Lola and her family lived in Northwest Iowa (Cherokee and Plymouth County), where they farmed for a number of years. Upon retirement, they moved to Pierson and spent winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. In 2004, she moved to Ankeny and lived with her daughter, Beverly.

Lola's first love was her family. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting and crocheting

Survivors include her children, Roger Mahnke (Helen) of Altoona, Iowa, Beverly Soden (Russell-deceased) of Ankeny, Judy Franzen (Robert) of Ankeny, Danny Mahnke (Teresa) of Kansas City, Greg Mahnke (Jan) of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Kathy Mahnke of Weslo, Texas; a sister, Melva Ferrin (Leonard) of Apache Junction, Ariz.; she was blessed with 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; sisters, Fern, Elinor and Ruby; son, Gary; and great-grandson, Ryan.

The family has asked in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny.
