SIOUX CITY -- Clara L. "Tudy" Thompson, 83, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Casa De Paz Nursing Home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fairfield Rock Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Tudy was born April 25, 1927, in Climbing Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Donath) Steffen. She grew up in the Climbing Hill and Anthon, Iowa, area.

Tudy married Henry "Hank" Thompson on May 14, 1951, in Climbing Hill. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1976, in Anthon. While they were married, Tudy was a farm wife, known for her potato salad and raisin cream pie. She then worked as a clerk for K-Mart and in later years, worked as a senior companion for the Alzheimer's Association.

Tudy enjoyed reading, word find books, playing games and cards, and cooking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her adoring grandchildren. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, involved in many activities including Pheasant Acre Bible Study.

Survivors include her children, Randy Thompson and his wife, Jodi of Westfield, Iowa, Linda and her husband, Jim Edwards of Norman, Okla., and Larry Thompson and his wife, Elaine of Sergeant Bluff; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-grandson, Trevor; and two brothers, Walter and Alvin Steffen.

Memorials may be made to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center or the Alzheimer's Association.
