SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Archie James Worrell Jr., 67, of Smithland died peacefully in his home Oct. 29, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving family, close friends, and his wife, soul mate of 49 years and the love of his life.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Brian Danner officiating. Burial will be in Liston Cemetery, Smithland. The rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St Mary's. Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent online to www.newcomerdenver.com.

Archie James Worrell Jr. was born June 17, 1943, in Sioux City, the son of Archie and Doloras (Lacroix) Worrell. He grew up and attended school in Smithland.

On Oct. 21, 1961, he was united in marriage to Pamela Jo Maynard at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto, Iowa. The couple began their journey together in Sioux City, started their family, and moved to Colorado in 1969. Arch began working for Western Airlines and after 35 years of service he retired with Delta Airlines.

He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, Colo. His sense of humor and quick wit will be remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.

Survivors left to honor Archie's memory include his wife, Pamela; four sons, Jeff Worrell of Aurora, Colo., Joe Worrell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jason Worrell of Climbing Hill, Iowa,and Justin and Becky Worrell of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Jackie and Chuck Hancock of Climbing Hill, and Jenessa and Andy Dewett of Centennial, Colo.; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Doloras Worrell of Smithland; three brothers, Gary and Karen Worrell of Smithland, Tim and Renae Worrell of Kingsley, Iowa, Russ and Judy Worrell of Smithland; four sisters, Sue and Wesley Shattuck of Mapleton, Iowa, Jean and Skip Shattuck of Smithland, Jessie Loring of Sloan, Iowa, Janie and Cliff Steinhoff of Hornick, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Linda Worrell of Sioux City; along with several nieces and nephews; and numerous good friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Sr.; and two brothers, Richard and James.
