SIOUX CITY -- Patricia Compton, 93, of Sioux City passed away Dec. 10, 2010 at a local care facility.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Patricia was born May 12, 1917, in Sioux City, to Andrew and Beatrice (Woodburn) Viken. She grew up in Sioux City, where she attended school, graduating from East High School in 1935. She had been a lifelong resident of the Sioux City area.

She was united in marriage to Bruce Compton on Jan. 17, 1953, in Sioux City. She was employed at the Frank Cone Order Buyers at the Sioux City Stockyards. Following her marriage, she was a housewife.

She was a member of Church of the Nativity. She belonged to the Sioux City Stockettes. She enjoyed attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren, family birthdays, holiday gatherings and social outings. She was a die-hard Chicago Cuns fan and loved baseball, traveling and cruises.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce of Sioux City; two children, Mary and Bob Pease of Sioux City, and Jim and Kim Compton of Sioux City; two grandsons, Chris and Nicole Compton of Terra Haute, Ind., and Andrew Compton of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a great-grandchild, Isabella Rose Compton of Terra Haute.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marguerite "Marge" Shannon and Frances "Fritzi" Viken.

Memorials may be directed to the Bernstein Unit or Hospice of Siouxland.

The family would like to thank all those who visited mom and gave their love and support during her nursing home stay. They would also like to thank that the staff at the Bernstein Unit and Hospice of Siouxland for their outstanding compassion and care of our mother.
