SIOUX CITY -- Arvid Eugene Brown, 75, Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital after being stricken at his home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Daniel Gunthier will officiate. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Arvid was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Catherine (Sievert) Brown. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He graduated from East High School in 1954.

On Sept. 26,1959, he married Mary Kay Riley in Sioux City. Arvid worked for Sunshine Food Stores in Sioux City for 38 years until they closed in 1991. After leaving Sunshine Foods, he worked for the Sioux City Community Schools lunch program and after retiring he remained as a driver for the program.

He was a member of the Immaculate Catholic Church and was a former member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus. He also served in the Air National Guard for eight years. Arvid was a people person, he enjoyed visiting with people and greeted everyone with a warm smile. He was a league bowler for many years and enjoyed sports of all kinds while keeping a special place in his heart for cars, both custom and racing. He was a person who could anticipate what a person needed before they would ask for it and was eager to lend a hand when needed. The most important part of his life was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Kay Brown of Sioux City; his children, Ken and Bobbette of Bellevue, Neb., Steve and Lisa of Hinton, Iowa, Teri and Gene Welsh of Medford, N.J., Sheri and Scott Dicks of Anthon, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Andy, Angela and her husband, Casey Culbertson, Craig, Eric, Derek, Jessica, Christopher, Justin, and Rachelle; his sister, Bonnie Bohlke of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents and a brother, Conrad, preceded him in death.
