SIOUX CITY -- Robert L. Keegan Sr., 94, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Scotland, S.D., the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Edwards) Keegan. He grew up in the Scotland and Tabor, S.D., areas. He lived in Waukegan, Ill., and worked for American Foundry. He then moved to Yankton, S.D., and worked in the construction industry.

He married Bernice L. Ford on June 5, 1936, in Yankton. She died Dec. 6, 2003, in Sioux City. The couple moved to Sioux City and he began working as a crane operator for W.A. Klinger Construction Co. He worked there for more than 35 years.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 234. He also was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The couple enjoyed traveling in their RV.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Robert L. and Karen Keegan Jr. of Bronson, Iowa, Michael and Janice Keegan of Sioux City and Daniel and Lynn Keegan of Sioux City; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Kathy and Jon Walker, Carol and Rick Schoonover, Rob and Caroline Keegan, Tom and Kathy Keegan, Sarah and Brandon Smith, Elizabeth and Dennis Brockhaus, Patrick and Janet Keegan, Teresa and Jason Copple, Christopher and Angie Keegan; 28 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice; a granddaughter, Lynette; two great-grandchildren, Charlie Walker and Cadyn Cullenward; and numerous brothers and sisters.
