SIOUX CITY -- Ernest L. Moreland, 87, of Sioux City passed away at his residence on Friday, June 18, 2010.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ernest was born March 9, 1923, in Sioux City, to Harry and Gladys (Titus) Moreland. He graduated from Central High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945.

On Feb. 14, 1948, Ernest married Joanne Spaulding in Sioux City. Joanne passed away on Oct. 28, 2006. Ernest was a truck driver working at Towns Transfer, Prospect Van Lines and Pierce Van Lines for 26 years until retiring in 1983.

He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Affairs Post 580. In his younger years, Ernest enjoyed competitive archery and bowling.

Ernest is survived by his son, Barry Moreland and his wife, Kay of Sioux City; his daughters, Linda Schmidt and her husband, Robert of North Sioux City, Laura Moreland of Sioux City, and Lisa Lalumendre of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers, Darryl Moreland of California, and Marvin Moreland of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Gary; grandson, Aaron; a brother, Meryle; and a sister, Lois.

Pallbearers will be Ernest's grandsons, Todd Schmidt, Jay Brannan, Brian and Chad Moreland and Matt and Sean Lalumendre.
