.CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Edward William Bottjen, 90, of Correctionville was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Andrew J. Carlson officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Midway, rural Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home.

Edward William Bottjen was born on Nov. 8, 1920, in rural Moville, Iowa, to William Dietrich and Bertha (Eichhorn) Bottjen. Ed was baptized on Feb. 18, 1921, in the home of his grandmother and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on Feb. 1, 1948, at St. Paul Lutheran, Midway. He received his education in country schools in Woodbury County.

On June 26, 1943, Ed and Betty Jean McCleerey were united in marriage at the Christian Church parsonage in Sioux City, with the Rev. C. R. Dayton officiated. After World War II, together they farmed for 10 years east of Midway, Battle Creek, and in 1956 moved to Correctionville, where they owned and operated Ed's Plumbing and Heating until retirement in 1985. During their marriage, Ed and Betty were blessed with five children, Karen, Shirlene, Bobby, Barbara and Kathryn.

Ed was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Midway, and Grace Lutheran Church, Correctionville, where he was an elder and trustee. He enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, woodworking, traveling, fishing and his children and grandchildren. Ed loved doing projects for his family.

Survivors include Betty, his wife of 67 years, and five children and their spouses, Karen Bottjen of Omaha, Neb., Vern and Shirlene Wright of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Bobby and Sandra Bottjen of Correctionville, Michael and Barbara Bundy of Orono, Minn., and Scott and Kathryn Hunwardsen of Correctionville; nine grandchildren, Randy Brown, Ronda Hanson, David Brown, Jennifer and Michael Wright, Chad Bottjen, Taylor Bundy, Brittany and Ashley Hunwardsen; 13 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Nathaniel, Jacob, Zachariah, Levi and Isaac Brown; Austin and Adam Hansen; Cody, Aiden, Jacob and Kaitlyn Bottjen; three sisters, Helen Nelson of Correctionville, Myrtle Hansen of Remsen, Iowa, and LaVonne Loof of Holstein, Iowa; sister-in-law, Claudia (Eugene) Schulke of Storm Lake, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evaline Schultz and Velma Parish; and two brothers, Richard and Darrell Bottjen.
