SIOUX CITY -- Hilda Shellhammer, 100, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at a Peoria retirement community, where she had lived for 15 years.

Memorial services were held Dec. 22, in Peoria. There will be a private interment in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City.

Hilda V. Petersen was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Mitchell, S.D. She married Melvin D. Shellhammer in 1929 at Kimball, S.D. For most of her married life, she was a full-time homemaker. Her husband owned service stations in downtown Sioux City until 1963. The couple was active in Morningside Presbyterian Church and in civic organizations. After 32 years in the area, they retired to Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Shellhammer died in 2000.

Hilda lived independently until she was 98. She had many interests; she was a sports fan, an accomplished seamstress, and she mastered the computer when she was 92. But most of all, she loved traveling with her husband in their motor home.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Shellhammer of Denver, Colo.; a son, Keith (Connie) Shellhammer; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, all of Sioux City.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Peoria Good Shepherd Employee Appreciation Fund, 10323 W. Olive Ave., Peoria, AZ 85345.
