SIOUX CITY -- Jordan James Dvorak, 22, of Sioux City. God wrapped his arms around Jordan and took him home to heaven on Saturday, May 29, 2010, after a long struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. He was a friend of Bill W.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church, 700 S. Martha St. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Jordan was born on October 27, 1987, in Sioux City, the son of Jim and Cathy. He attended Bryant Elementary School, Hoover Middle School and graduated from North High School, May 2006. He also attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City. He studied business and personal training.

Jordan loved playing all sports starting with soccer at age 5. He was involved in the Headid Little League Program starting at age 5. He was a starting member of the Headid Little League Team that won the City Championship in 2000. He was an avid fan of all sports and kept up on all sports information and trivia. Jordan loved all kinds of music, especially RAP. He enjoyed working out, nutrition, and all forms of physical activities. He recently enjoyed playing hacky-sack with his friends in Des Moines.

He loved being with his family and friends. He had a passion for life and making people laugh. His compassion was felt by everyone and he was often described as "very sweet and tender hearted." Pets played a very important role in his life, especially, his dog, Chopper. Jordan had a strong faith in God and openly shared his beliefs with his family. He always welcomed and felt protected by the prayers he received. He had a smile that could "light up a room", it will be greatly missed. Jordan had a very playful spirit, and was always reassuring the people around him that everything will be OK.

Jordan struggled with his addictions over several years. Many attempts had been made through various treatment programs in Sioux City and Des Moines. He desperately wanted his life to be different and with his last attempt at sobriety, his experience was the most successful. It seems that he simply was worn down by the struggle it takes in early sobriety.

Jordan is survived by his father and mother, Jim and Cathy; his sister, Amy; grandmothers, Emily of Minnesota, and Deem of Colorado; uncles, Lee of Sioux City, and Jay of Minnesota; aunts, Mary (Paul) and Eileen (Ben) of Washington; Denise of Iowa, Colleen and Corrine (Bill) of Oregon; as well as several cousins in Sioux City and across the United States.

He was preceded in death by grandfather, Ernie Dvorak; grandfather, Bill Sullivan; grandmother, Joyce Sullivan; and one of his very best friends, Bubba Wermes.

Memorials, if you choose, should be directed to Jordan Dvorak Scholarship Fund c/o of Jackson Recovery Centers Incorporated.
