23 June 2010SLOAN, Iowa -- Donald J. Haindfield, 81, of Sloan passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Salix, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to pearsonwoodwillman.com.
Donald Joseph Haindfield, the son of Mose and Evonne (LaFleur) Haindfield, was born May 26, 1929, in Salix. He was raised in the area of his birth. He attended school in the Sloan area and graduated from Sloan High School.
In 1952, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Funkhouser in Salix. To this union two children were born, Marcia and Larry. Donald and Norma later divorced. He farmed in the Salix area for several years. In addition to farming, he worked nights at Swift Meat Packing Company in Sioux City. In later years, he worked part-time at Snyder's Bend in maintenance.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting and being on the farm.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Tott and her husband, Michael of Pender, Neb.; two granddaughters, Tricia Heineman and her husband, Tanner of Pender and Brittany Tott of Pender; a great-grandson, Ostern Heineman of Pender; a brother, Joseph Haindfield of Sergeant Bluff; a sister, LaVonne Molesworth of Sioux City; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry in 1972; three sisters, two in infancy and Laurence Rossow; and a brother, Darl Haindfield.
