24 June 2010SIOUX CITY -- Chloe J. Gross, 80, of Sioux City died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Chloe was born Aug. 9, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Clarence and Faith (Johnson) Fulton. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools. She graduated from Central High School in 1947.
She married George William "Bill" Gross on Dec. 31, 1947, in Sioux City. He died Dec. 1, 1993, in Sioux City. She worked for Johnson Biscuit Co., and Younkers-Martin Department Store. She then worked for the Sioux City School District for 45 years as a librarian and during that period for Walden Books for 15 years.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was superintendent for the Sunday School program for many years. She also served as president of the Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of Zonta International and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading and working with the children at the schools she worked for. She had been very involved with the PTA, while the kids where in school.
Survivors include two sons, David William Gross and his wife, Barbara of Congress, Ariz., and Steven C. Gross and his special friend, Mary Burgfechtel of Sioux City; two daughters, Rebecca Sue Gross of Sioux City and Cathie J. and her husband, Tim Brende of McCook Lake, S.D.; a sister, Priscilla Blasko of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Joanna Billings, Alison Burchett, Owen Gross and Katie Frankl; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Billings and Leo Burchett.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Norman D. and Keith L. Fulton.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Fulton, Owen Gross, Bobby Frankl, Mike Blasko, Tim Brende and David Burgfechtel.
Memorials in her name maybe directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
