23 June 2007SLOAN, Iowa -- Edith A. Adams, 93, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Sloan, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with the Rev. Richard J. Moore officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.
Edith was born Aug. 3, 1913, in rural Sloan, the daughter of Ellis L. and Ada A. (Edwards) Copple. She attended rural school and was raised in Lakeport Township, Sloan.
She married James Talmadge "Tal" Adams on May 21, 1932, in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in the Sloan community, where they raised their family. She was employed at the Sloan Nursing Home and Sloan Cafe. She also operated a day-care out of her home. Tal died Feb. 10, 1983.
She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church, where she served as a deaconess and Sunday School teacher. She always stayed very busy whether it be baking, handwork, church work, helping anywhere when needed or visiting shut-ins. She volunteered many years tutoring children in reading at Westwood School until her health failed.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Sue Rowland of Grand Junction, Colo.; a son, Roger Adams of Overland Park, Kan.; 11 grandchildren, Lindsay Rowland, Ashley Adams, Melanie DeWitt, Elizabeth Leonard, Melissa Brooks, Kenneth Noble, LeAnne Lamoueux, Jim Noble, Lorri Whitesell, Lisa Nelson and Steve Noble; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Dean of Sloan and Eleanor Choquette of Salix, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, Tal, she was also preceded in death by her parents; 10 siblings; and a daughter, Nancy Noble.
Memorial may be directed to the Evangelical Covenant Church.
