Funeral Services Held Wed. For Lena S. Martens

Funeral services for Lena S. Martens, 87, of Anthon, were held Wednesday, July 31, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. in St John’s Lutheran Church in Climbing Hill. The Rev. Walter Resner officiated. Interment was in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill, under the direction of the McCulloch-Wavrin Funeral Home of Moville.

Charles Reinking, soloist, sang “How Great Thou Art” and “I’m But A Stranger Here.” Georgia Martin was organist.

Casketbearers were Messrs. Leonard Beaver, Rolland Bueoy, Kenneth McGraw, Albert Krueger, Vincent Parker and Galye Christensen.

Mrs. Martens, the former Lena S. Allner, was born September 11, 1897, the daughter of Charles and Lena Haase Allner, in Woodbury County. She married Henry Martens May 15, 1917, in Woodbury County. He died June 12, 1974. She was a lifetime resident of the Climbing Hill and Anthon area.

She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Martens died Sunday, July 28, 1985 in Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Survivors include two sons, W.D. of Spirit Lake and Henry of Anthon; three sisters, Mrs. Emily Thomas of Correctionville, Mrs. Alvena Smith of Moville and Mrs. Clara Gooseman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
