Funeral Services Held Monday For J. Gail Powell

Funeral services for J. Gail Powell, 62, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of the Lawton/Moville area were held Monday November 16, 1992 at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton with Dr. Robert E. Peters officiating. Interment was in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, with Masonic rites by Morningside Lodge #615 AF & AM under the direction of the McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville. Services were held Thursday evening November 12, 1992 at Bunkers Garden Chapel in Mesa, Arizona.

Lloyd Jenness, soloist, sang “Amazing Grace.” Ruby Wilson was organist.

Casketbearers were Messrs. Charles Powell, Gail Nichols, Lenny Robinson, Jim Bleil, Jack and Gene Bremer.

Mr. Powell was born January 16, 1930, the son of Oscar and Ruth Conley Powell, at Sioux City. He was raised in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School. He moved to the Lawton area in 1947. He married Beverly “Pert” Robinson November 22, 1953, at Lawton. He moved to Moville in 1967, and moved to Mesa in 1987. He had also farmed through 1982, and was owner/operator of “Pert’s Place” in Moville for many years.

He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and of Morningside Lodge #615 AF&AM in Sioux City. He had been the Woodbury County Fair Manager for several years, and was a former member of the Moville School Board and the Woodbury County Fair Board. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Mr. Powell died Thursday November 12, 1992 in a Mesa hospital of an apparent heart attack.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Gayle Ann and Robert Roepke of Higley, Arizona, Karen and Kevin Lloyd of Climbing Hill, Iowa and Kathy and Mike Crawford of Moville; a brother and his wife, Chuck and Betty of Lawton; eight grandchildren, Wade and Austin Roepke, Jennifer, Jamey, Kyle and Kristine Lloyd, Cody and Casey Crawford.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
