Funeral Services Held For Chester “Chet” Arnold

Chester Herman “Chet” Arnold, 77, Countryside Retirement Home, died Tuesday, February 19, 1991, at a Sioux City hospital after an extended illness.

Services were at 11:00 a.m. Friday February 22, 1991 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Susan Miller officiating. Burial was in the Holly Springs, Iowa Cemetery, under the direction of the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mr. Arnold was born December 22, 1913, at Holly Springs, Iowa. He graduated from Holly Springs High School in 1931 and attended one year of College at Ames, Iowa. He then returned home to care for his parents. On June 1, 1944, he married Veda Eileen Weaver of Moville. The couple made their home at 2910 Stone Park Boulevard until April 1989.

He worked for D.K. Baxter Refrigeration for several years before opening his own business, Arnold Refrigeration. Throughout his working years, he sold and delivered ice, was a janitor, bus driver, and basketball referee. He was a mechanic, maintained Holly Springs Cemetery and was a car salesman. He was a life insurance salesman for Mutual of New York and was a stationary engineer at the Methodist Hospital for a year. After the hospital merger, he was the dispatch supervisor for St. Luke’s Medical Center until his retirement in 1975. For 25 years, he was the wholesale distributor for Bowkers Catfish and Bait in Iowa and South Dakota.

Mr. Arnold was a member of First Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army for 16 months during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lee (Myrta Ruth) Hansen of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mrs. Bob (Sally Ann) Harkins of Sioux City; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Marvin (Grace) Jackson.
