Hornick, Iowa—Earnest L. Beem, 87, of Silver City, N.M., formerly of the Hornick and Climbing Hill area, died Dec. 28,1995, in Silver City.

A memorial service will be held at Silver City Methodist Church. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the West Fork Township Cemetery at Climbing Hill, with the Rev. Emery Killian officiating. Wood Funeral Home of Sloan is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Beem was born June 13, 1908, in Hornick, the son of Lee E. and Anna M (Larsen) Beem. He graduated from Holly Springs School in 1927. He married Lois Boyer of Sloan Nov. 29, 1934. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1942 and he worked as a reporter for Dunn and Bradstreet as a civilian employee of the Air Force at Sergeant Bluff. In 1945, they moved to Edgemont, S.D., where he operated a Coast to Coast Store until 1959. He then managed a credit bureau in Hot Springs, S.D., and worked for the Fall River County Assessor before being elected Fall River County Auditor in 1960. They moved to Hot Springs in January 1960. In 1974, they retired to Silver City, where he worked for his son, Don of a part-time basis. Mrs. Beem died in 1992.

Mr. Beem was active in the Congregational Church in Edgemont, the United Churches in Hot Springs and the Methodist Church in Silver City. He was treasurer for the churches and quartermaster for the American Legion in Hot Springs. He was an active Kiwanis member and led fund raising activities to enable boys to attend Boy’s State.

Survivors include two sons, Lee of Emmetsburg and Don of Silver City; a brother, Ed of Climbing Hill; a sister, Elda Eickhorn of Lake View; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, DeWitt and Arthur and a sister, Marie Knorr.
