Memorial Services Held For Robert G. Dicus

Memorial services were held at First Baptist Church, Van Nuys, California for Robert George Dicus, born February 5, 1924 at Moville, died November 26, 1980 at California.

Bob graduated from Moville High School in 1942, was in CCC Camp, then served with U.S.N. in the South Pacific from 1943-1946. He married Shirley Osborn in 1946. He attended college at York, Nebraska, then received his B.A. from UCLA. He was a registered Physical Therapist. At 37 years of age he developed Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was forced to give up his Physical Therapy Clinic and became a producer of Medical Educational films. In 1974, Bob met Eames Bishop whose wife was also stricken with ALS. They founded the Alssoa Society for research, Bishop as chief executive and Dicus as chairman. It is now a national organization. Bob also founded Western Independent Living, a group dedicated to help the handicapped.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, a son Stephen, and a daughter Ann Baldwin, all of California; mother, Pearl Byers of Moville; brother, Dr. Don Dicus of California; two sisters, Carol Schoenherr of Merrill and Mona Juarez of Moville. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Dicus, and step-father August Byers.
