SIOUX CITY -- Donald Eugene Hamm, 66, of Sioux City died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Don was born June 22, 1943, in Salem, Iowa, the son of Jay and Velma (Stutzman) Hamm. He was raised in the Salem area until moving to Mount Pleasant, where he graduated from high school.

He moved to Sioux City, where he met and married Cheryl (Harling) Maxfield on Sept. 28, 1985. They made their home in Sioux City. He was employed as a salesman for Drummond America Corporation until August 2004, when he retired because of his health.

He was a musician and played locally in many country bands. He played guitar and was a lead singer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Hamm of Sioux City; a daughter, Christy and Brad Robinson of Sergeant Bluff; three sons, Todd "Gig" and Natali Harling, Jay Hamm and Ricky Hamm, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren; two brothers, Art and Bev Hamm of Winfield, Iowa, and Bob and Judy Hamm of Meta, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Velma Hamm; and a son, James "Duce" Harling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
