SIOUX CITY -- Elizabeth Jean Thomas, 81, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Sunday, May 23, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City, with Dan Fisher officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Elizabeth was born April 9, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Ernest and Viola (Dell) Groves. She attended Sioux City schools.

She was united in marriage with Jesse Wilber Thompson on Jan. 10, 1953 in Sioux City. Jesse preceded her in death on Aug. 4, 2008, in Sioux City.

Elizabeth was a delightful lady who enjoyed attending the Indianapolis 500 every Memorial Day weekend, as well as fishing with her family, spending time with her grandchildren and doing crafts and crossword puzzles.

She will be missed by her family, which includes her three sons, Douglas of Sioux City, Steven of Indianapolis, Ind., and Danny and his special friend Erin Ruhland of Sioux City; her two daughters, Betty Rouse and her special friend Dan Byner of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mary Radley and her special friend Darrell Beverly of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Max Graves of Hubbard, Neb.; and her half-brother, David Hergenreder of Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse; her sister, Mary; and her brother, Tony.
