SIOUX CITY -- Guy Ellis Stultz, 97, of Blackduck, Minn., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Blackduck.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the home of Billie Jean and Norman Gross, 26318 O'Brien Creek Rd. NE, Hines, Minn., with the Rev. Raymond Klug officiating. Cease Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.

Guy was born Aug. 10, 1912, in Allen, Neb., to Harry and Anna (Gates) Stultz. He married Sophie Romanchuk in Sioux City, Iowa, on May 3, 1938. He ran a hotel in Sioux City for many years. He was a jack of all trades and worked as a carpenter and truck driver.

In 1952, the family moved to a farm in Minnesota on Black Lake in Turtle River Township. He worked for a box factory in Bemidji and farmed for many years. Eventually, they built a home north of Bemidji and resided there until he entered Northern Pines Good Samaritan Center in Blackduck, where he had lived the past two years.

He enjoyed reading, especially Louis L'Amour books and collections. He loved carpentry, working in the wood shop, and making things for his grandchildren. He loved baseball and had fond memories of watching Babe Ruth play baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Sophie of Bemidji; a son, Arthur (Margie) Stultz of Brainerd, Minn.; two daughters, Peggy (Larry) Gross and Billie Jean (Norman) Gross, both of Hines; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Gross, Gary Gross, Roxane Gross, Lisa Grundmeier, Tracy Fitch, Todd Stultz, Mike Stultz, Robin Stultz and Sheryl Stultz.
