ANTHON, Iowa -- LeRoy L. Wasmund, 92, died unexpectedly Monday, May 17, 2010, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon, with Pastor Andrew Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

LeRoy Lester Wasmund was born in Wichita, Kan., on May 29, 1917, the son of Eldon Henry and Katie (Karr) Wasmund. In 1924, he moved with his family from Kansas to a farm west of Mapleton, Iowa, and a year later moved to a farm north of Mapleton. He was baptized in Wichita as a baby and as an adult in Mapleton.

LeRoy was united in marriage to Anna Marie Dose on Aug. 17, 1944, in Mapleton at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. The couple started farming near Danbury in 1945, and six years later moved to a farm south of Mapleton. Six years after that they bought a farm near Anthon where they lived until their retirement in the spring of 1985. It was then that they moved into Anthon. LeRoy worked at the Rodney Elevator first for a period of three years and later was there for 15 years. Anna passed away March 22, 2008.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon.

Survivors include one son and his wife, Ronald and Diane Wasmund of Arnolds Park, Iowa; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife, LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Conrad; and two sisters, May and Dorothy.
