Funeral Services Held Friday For Velma Rasmussen

Funeral services for Velma A. Rasmussen, 68, of rural Bronson, were held Friday October 13, 1989 in Christy Morningside Funeral Home in Sioux City. Dr. Robert E. Peters of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson officiated. Interment was in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City.

Mr. William C Prince, soloist sang “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art,.” Mrs. Virginia Prince-Renner was organist.

Casket bearers were Messrs. Lloyd Johnson, Duane Ping, Dick Moore, Bob Wingert, Loren Lewis and Al Wendel.

Mrs. Rasmussen, the former Velma A Ping was born March 6, 1921, in Butte, Nebraska. She lived her early years in Fairfax, South Dakota, and moved to Bronson in early childhood. She graduated from Bronson High School in 1938. On October 4, 1941, she married Lloyd A. Rasmussen in South Sioux City. They lived in Lawton about eight years and moved to Bronson in 1950.

She was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. She was a former member of the Bronson School Board, Lawton Fan Club, Woodbury County Farm Bureau and served as Floyd Township Secretary/Treasurer. She was a member of the Bronson Birthday Club and Woodbury County Library Board.

Mrs. Rasmussen died Tuesday October 10, 1989 in a Sioux City hospital of short illness.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd; a son, Dean Rasmussen of Bronson; a daughter, Mrs. Bob (Vina) Rodecker of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Steve Rasmussen, Nan Seitzinger andf Troy, Travis and Tanya Rodecker; her mother, Mrs. Pearl Schmidt of Sioux City; three brothers, Elmer Ping of El Segundo, California, Marvin Ping of New Castle, Deleware and Everett Ping of Dallas, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Earl Ping.
