6 February 2010SLOAN, Iowa -- Roger R. Funkhouser, 71, formerly of Sloan, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Nebraska Veteran's Home in Bellevue.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Burial will be in Garner Township Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Roger was born Aug. 17, 1938, in Sloan, to the late Floyd and Anna (Petersen) Funkhouser. He retired in 1996 after a career in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of sergeant first class.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Fitzsimmons) Funkhouser to whom he married July 25, 1959; sons, Roger Funkhouser, Larry and Sherry Funkhouser and Aaron and Clarinda Funkhouser; a daughter, Kimberly Lynam; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Donald; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Norma.
The family will direct memorials.
