SIOUX CITY -- Bessie J. Wall, 88, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010, at her residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Bessie was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Craig, Mo., to Frank and Clara (Kraft) VanLaningham. She attended Central High School and made her home in Sioux City. Bessie married Gerald R. Wall on Sept. 19, 1941. She worked at Woolco for 10 years when it first opened.

She was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church before she became ill. She was on several church committees including the Irena Goodwin Circle and sang in the choir. Bessie loved going to the Black Hills in the fall, working outside with her flowers and making beautiful floral arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Gerald; a daughter, Merlene Levering of Sioux City; sons, Gary Wall and wife, Karen of Sioux City, and Steve Wall of South Dakota; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Brent Wall, Terry Wall, Dustin Wall, Cody Wall, Chris Wall and Chad Levering.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
